A word of warning concerning upgrading from the original boxed editions to the Steam version. >:(
From the Steam website:
Adding non-Steam games to the My Games list - (As in the originally purchased retail box editions) Here is a direct quote from the Steam website in answer to why I couldn't register m game, had a bad serial and wanted to obtain a correct serial number as well as the free content that only those that had bought the original Steam version would get.
Question:
How do I add non-Steam games to Steam's My games list?
Answer:
Important::
This will simply add a shortcut to your game. This will not allow you to download updates for your game through Steam nor allow you to use this game as proof of ownership for your Steam account. Only games purchased or registered through Steam can receive automatic updates and function as proof of ownership for a Steam account.
Now, there was no mention of these requirement that I could see, on either page, The Witcher's promo plus the Steam order page. Right now, I am feeling like a fool, while simultaneously being ripped of. That hurts, especially from the Wicher''s side. I bought the original, and then for added support to CDPR I went out and bought the Enhanced version - both boxed. I don't know what to do. I would have expected better treatment at the hand of the Witcher management than this. :wall:
I'm not sure I understand what happened here or what your complaint is.
Did you buy the game a
third time, through Steam? If so, why? Or did you try to download updates for your non-Steam Witcher game through Steam? You don't need Steam to download the updates; they're all available right here, for people who bought the boxed retail version.
As for the promo, they advertised that
The Witcher was on sale at Steam. That's not really any different from announcing that it's on sale at any other shop -- if you have the game already, you don't go buy another one just because it's on sale.
I'm sure I must be missing something here --
what happened?
