Development of The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf on hold

After recent technical evaluation of The Witcher: Rise of The White Wolf, CD Projekt RED has decided to suspend development of the project. This decision was made because the company saw a high risk that the final product will not meet the quality expectations of CD Projekt RED. We have already started to look for other possible solutions to address this situation.

A comment from Adam Kiciński, CEO of CD Projekt RED:
“This decision was one of the hardest we’ve ever had to make as a company. We have put our hearts, a lot of our time and energy into this project. Because of that, development was in a very advanced stage. However, there was serious danger that we would miss our target release date, but more importantly to us, that the project would not meet our own expectations of quality. Our main goal is always to make every release better than the previous one. Unfortunately, this project was not going in the right direction. We are now looking into all possible scenarios, and we will do all we can to retain our fans’ confidence in us. We simply will not let them down; the quality of our games remains the highest priority.”

Since The Witcher’s release in October 2007 most of the CD Projekt RED team has been working on another major project. Information about this title will remain secret for the time being.CD Projekt RED will reveal the new project in the coming months.

Will the Rise of the White Wolf ever be in a store? I mean, do they start tocontinue it on some uknown day or is this final decision?
I don't have an xbox or anything for the RotWW. Yet, I liked the pictures and trailers. But that 'major project' sounds interesting~

Props for focusing on quality - too many developers sacrifice quality just to get their games out and make $$$ sooner.  And I'm more of a PC gamer than a console gamer, so I'm pretty excited to hear that you guys are working hard on the secret project.

It's good that you guys managed to branch out after the first game and decided to take on multiple projects, even if they aren't all in-house, unfortunate that one has been frozen but at least we have another to look forward to.

In my opinion it is better to put a project on ice when there is doubt that the quality is as good as wanted. That would do more damage to the image of a company than bringing out an half quality project.
So everything goes the right way imo!

If you really want to understand WHY they have put it on hold, you should read this interview that Petra Silie posted about. Remember that the interview was done before the decision to put it on hold but, have a look at how The Witcher was develop, you will be surprised that Geralt was not the main character. It explain many decision they made, why there is no character customization, why you cannot put weapon in your bag and many other things....

That interview made me think of what is going on with RoTWW and makes me really confident. Also, you will have a clue as to what to expect in the coming secret projects

I'm dissapointed but not because i wont be able to play the game(im fine with the pc version as it is).Im dissapointed that the rest of the gaming world wont be able to play this masterpiece.

So basically they outsourced the project to another team...i was hoping it was being done in-house.  Anyway, i'll likely get The Witcher 2 but i was really looking forward to a console version...
