"There are these business guys trying to a set a sales figure by trying to make a game for everyone," Kicinski added. "But that's just hoping for money that won't come. Not everyone will like it. For me, it's kind of brave to say, 'We're not going to sell to everyone.'
It is brave. Brave, and smart. This whole idea of constructing a game for the masses results in a lack of originality in game design and it floods the market with generic, cookie-cutter games. The safe option would be to try and hit as many target markets as you can to try and generate the largest possible return on investment. This mindset is resulting in games that are a cipher of another game that came before it.
That's a big part of The Witcher's charm - it's not trying to be some generic cash cow. As a gamer, as a fantasy fan and as a geek, delving further into the game really shows just how much care, passion and attention to detail went into crafting the gaming experience. It really shows, and it's nice to be here on the other side of the screen to the devs and see the quality and in turn, feel respected as a gamer.
It's nice to know somebody out there knows how to create games for gamers :)
""We tried to treat people well, and they've treated us well," said Kacinski, revealing CD Projekt's shocking, forward-thinking strategy." This is something that moast publishers and developers forget. The suport and the respect that CDP Team is showing to the community is present even on this forum.
Agreed :) The support RED show this forum is remarkable. Either that, or they're luring us here with the game and secretly recruiting soldiers to fight in the coming zombie apoocalypse. In which case, they are to be commended for their foresight and proactivity in dealing with the zombie threat. Either way, much respect :)
So anyway, great interviews, thanks for bringing them to our attention. Epic wooties be due to Michal Kicinski for being a champion and sharing his insights on the gaming community. I find that stuff fascinating :)
