Enhanced Edition FAQ

Q: What files do I need and how do I install the 1.4 Patch ( Enhanced Edition )?

A: Do read: http://www.thewitcher.com/community/en/www/ee_update_faq.html and read how to verify the integrity of your downloaded files here: http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/1.4_patch

Q: The  REGISTER.EXE keeps failing to register or Patch says i need to register my game

A1: It's not a problem if it says you need to register your game ( again ).
A2: If on Vista run the Patch and/or REGISTER.EXE as Administrator
A3: If you encounter an HTTP error "12057" you'll need to uncheck the following option in Internet Explorer: Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> Security options -> "Check for server certificate revocation"
A4: You basically need to STOP any firewall/antivirus that can interfere with the online key checking, have all updates for Windows and IE
A5: Try to write the key/password with small case letters, even by changing your password with one that has small case letters
A6: Try to run REGISTER.EXE in "Safe Mode with Networking"
A7: Even also try to register at a friend, you only need some files from the Witcher folder, put them on a USB flash stick or something, you do not need Data & System folders, you do not need to install the game on your friend's computer. Just run REGISTER.EXE there, if it works ( and it did to a lot of people that could not register from their houses ) then export the registry keys on the registered computer: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareCD Projekt RED and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareCD Projekt RED and import them in your game system. After this retry to patch.

Q: In case of Patch 1.4 installation errors

A1: The patching process needs about ~3GB of free disk space on the partition the game is installed.
A2:  Reboot computer into Windows "Safe Mode with Networking" and try to install the patch.
A3: The patcher needs .NET Framework 1.1, 2.0, 2.0SP1 and 3.0 ( do not install 3.0 SP1 or 3.5 Beta, if you have them installed please uninstall ALL the .NET versions, and reinstall only the ones mentioned ), 64bit users need these also: 2.0, 2.0SP1, 3.0
A4: The patch files need to be in the same folder and have their original file names as the patcher application checks them and it might crash if the files are not found. See this link: http://witcher.wikia.com/wiki/1.4_patch about the exact file names.

Q: Problem with "Catastrophic Failure communicate"

A: You should disable and uninstall all the antivirus programs (especially Comodo and Kaspersky ) and any virtual drive applications. reboot and retry to patch. You can reinstall them after the patch has been applied successfully.

BEWARE: an *unofficial* alternate route to patch the game

Cytuj
1. Extracte TWEE_Upgrade.exe using this command line: TWEE_Upgrade /extract_all:D:TWEE_Upgrade ( it will extract the files in this folder:  D:TWEE_Upgrade) or if  it's not unpacking then use the Universal Extractor, get it from: http://legroom.net/software/uniextract
2. Put the wanted language packs and adventures in the new folder that the unpacking process created, so that SETUP.EXE and the patch packs are in the same folder.
3. Run SETUP.EXE.

Authentication, installation and modification all should go ahead with no problems, modification will take some time though.

Q: I've been waiting more that 2 hours for the patching to finish, yet it looks like it's not even patching

A: Depending on your systems specs the patching process will take some time to end, while working the hard drive activity light should flicker a lot. If it does not flicker or more than 2 hours have passed since you've started the patch it is recomended to stop the patch, uninstall The Witcher, reboot, reinstall The Witcher, patch to 1.4.

Q: I am an Windows XP 32-Bit user and I’m having error code 111 during  the  “Modifying game files” process of the patch installation.

A: Disable your /3GB and /PAE switches in boot.ini

Q: I downloaded the EE Upgrade from 4players and the German Language pack from Rapidshare and when I want to install it says that I have the wrong Language Pack

A: Somehow some language packs spread throughout the internet are too small and may not work properly. Please use the official download source

Q: The patch complains that it can't find the needed language pack

A: The patching process needs at least the TWEE_Upgrade.exe file and a language pack file ( it needs the language pack file for the language in which the game is installed on your system ). If you have the US or UK version you could try to get both language file packs. You can add more languages once the initial patching process is finished correctly. You can then change in-game what language the voices and the subtitles will be.

Q: The Witcher upgraded to 1.4 doesn’t see old saves

Cytuj
“I was playing upgraded to 1.2, got to chapter III, and now EE came out, and I decided to try it out. I updated, and now I can't see any of my old saved games! I look in the folder The WithcerSystemThe WitcherSaves and they're all still there. What gives? - Something I can't explain - The saved folder got moved.[/b]

A: So before the path was %WITCHER_DIRECTORY%SystemThe WitcherSaves and now it's %MY_DOCUMENTS%The WitcherSaves . So, just copy your saves to the new directory, and now it's working.

Q: Problem With EAX ( game is crashing and MSS32.DLL is mentioned )

A1: NEWER FIX: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mzjtojmmwln / http://rapidshare.com/files/148936599/TheWitcher1.4EE_EAX_fix_TRY3.zip.html

Cytuj
Backup your files:
1. The WitcherSystemmss32.dll
2. The WitcherSystembinkw32.dll
3. The WitcherSystemMiles*

Then replace them with these files ( mss32.dll version 7.0.23.0, binkw32.dll version 1.8.23.0 and the associated Miles folder)

Apparently patch 1.4 has updated Miles Sound System libraries, but somehow MSS32.DLL was not updated hence the instability, and BINKW32.DLL is updated too since the game will freeze if only the newer MSS32.DLL is used.

After this you can get SOUND ACCELERATION back on maximum setting, you can also enable EAX in game.

A2: OLDER FIX: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?iwiyztzdttz
Backup your files from "The WitcherSystemMiles" folder, then overwrite them with these from version 1.3 of the game.

Vista + ALchemy users: if the sound pops or cracks: try to set up in ALchemy the Buffers to 5

Q: For those having the issue described as "meditation sound while walking" or "high volume sound while meditating"

A: Get: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?nmyay4jlnkm

Cytuj
There are 2 files:
silencegui_medit.ogg -> a *silent* sound effect is played while meditating or walking ( useful for those that hear "high volume sound while meditating" )
stepsgui_medit.ogg -> a sort of *stepping sound* in heard while meditating or walking ( useful for those that hear "meditation sound while walking" but it will sound strange when meditating )

Put only one of those files in Witcher/Data/Override folder, create folder if it does not exist

Q: Crashing immediately after starting from the launcher, and the above sound/Miles fixes did not work

A1:  Go to Control Panel>Sound and Audio Devices>Audio> Advanced (Located at the Sound Playback slider) and turn down hardware acceleration
A2:  For people having crashes who have a Creative Audigy sound card: Go to Start -> Run... -> Type in "dxdiag" -> Go to "Sound" and then disable hardware sound acceleration.

Cut-scenes blurryness

A1: Disable Depth of Field in game
A2: If the blurryness continues turn LIGHTS on Medium or Low
A3: ATI USERS go to ATI CCC, find the option called "Alternate Pixel Center", make sure it is checked
A4: NVIDIA USERS go in the nVidia Control Panel, force Anisotropic Filtering and setting it to 1 in-game

Q: NVIDIA SLI USERS having lights shining through texturesThis is a work-in-progress FAQ: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.0 , do check it often as new tips are being added

A: Install nHancer. After nHancer installs itself, run it and the program will scan your PC for installed games.
1- Make a copy of your Witcher profile
2- No need to rename the new copied profile...just make sure you point the new profile to yThis is a work-in-progress FAQ: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.0 , do check it often as new tips are being addedour Witcher.exe under the executables window below your profiles. It will override your original profile but won't delete it.
3- Highlight your Witcher profile and then on the right side column select SLI Mode
4- Uncheck 09 (Prince of Persia: SOT) and check 03 (Half Life 2)
5- Close up nHancer and your good to go

Q: Mirror finnish textures with ATI cardsThis is a work-in-progress FAQ: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.0 , do check it often as new tips are being added

A:

Cytat: Lurk
For everyone in this thread owning an ATI card and running with one of the latest set of Catalyst drivers:
the one reason for some textures (i.e. the ramp leading upward from Kaer Morhen's courtyard and most of the windows during the game) to appear completely transparent and/or reflective when they shouldn't be, is related to the Adaptive Anti-Aliasing setting in CCC.
The use of forced AAA (NOT AA) causes some of the textures in-game not to show up correctly.
The issue has been aknowledge by ATI after I sent a ticket to the driver's team in February, and was told it was being looked into.
I think they'd have it fixed by now, had it been possible. This is a work-in-progress FAQ: http://www.thewitcher.com/forum/index.php?topic=17503.0 , do check it often as new tips are being added

On a side note, forcing AA and AF in CCC can lead to unpredictable results, such as none of the two filtering methods being applied at all even if they are disabled in-game.
The right way to apply graphic fltering in The Witcher is by leaving AA and AF to application preference (and enable them in-game, of course) and disable AAA in CCC.

Q: Where I can download blood revival patch and what’s this all about?

A: Here you can grab Patch
http://ve3dmedia.ign.com/files/WitcherEnhancedEditionNABloodRevivalPatch.rar
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/12936/The+Witcher+Enhanced+Edition+-+Blood+Patch
http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=55880

In our efforts to make The Witcher: Enhanced Edition as awesome as possible, we made a little mistake... the North American version of the game shipped without a little file that enabled some additional blood effects. That’s why we created The Blood Revival patch

Q: I bought Witcher copy in Canada and I can’t find registration Key….

A: Unfortunately we heard about this problem – you have to contact Atari Technical support and ask for a REPLACEMENT KEY

Q: Vista crashing and the above sound/Miles fixes did not work

A: You can use TweacUAC put UAC it in Quiet Mode, not Disabled.

Run in Compatibility Mode, right-click on witcher.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> select Windows XP SP2,  check the 640x480 mode, and the Disable Decorations -> press Apply and OK

Then run witcher.exe  as Administrator

Q: Can I install the extra missions and the bonus material later or will I have to install them with the patch?

A: The 2 extra adventures can be installed later, the bonus material does not need to be installed at all
