A New Year is here!

05.01.2009, 18:16Comments: 8

Welcome back after a long holiday absence.

First of all, we hope you spent your holidays in a nice warm family atmosphere and that your first encounter with the New Year wasn’t like sightseeing in the nine circles of hell (red. I wouldn’t recommend that - I’ve been there recently and there is nothing interesting to see at all :) – PanKarol ).

What will this year bring? It’s hard to say right now, but you can be sure that we won’t let you get bored. We have a lot of plans to roll out and a lot of materials to show, and I’m not talking just about Rise of the White Wolf, if you know what I mean :). Trust me - we’ll do everything that is possible to make this The Witcher’s year yet again

So once again, happy 2009 and stay tuned for more Witcher news!

Here comes a holiday surprise for all Witcher Fans! – A special hotfix for EAX and graphics blur issues!

You can download it here.

Seasons Greetings from The Witcher Team!

Fixes
======================================================
1) EAX technology problems – this patch resolves problems related to EAX technology, which did not operate properly in conjunction with the game, generating critical errors when activated in the Game Options panel.
2) The patch also eliminates the blur (deriving from “glow” effect augmentation) remaining after cut scenes and dialogue sequences.

Ho, ho, ho - Witcher Christmas Card is here!

19.12.2008, 14:59Comments: 35

No snow in sight – that’s true. But even without it, the holidays are in the air in a big way – so big, in fact, you can feel them, hear them, smell them. Like every year, we’ve prepared a special greeting card. We’ve just started sending it out, and you should find it in your mailbox within hours.

We know at least some of you may not want to wait, so we’ve prepared a holiday page – http://holiday.thewitcher.com  – where you’ll find the card posted already. What’s more, go to that page and you’ll find an opportunity to send your own wishes to anyone – your best mate, family, friends, even that sexy neighbor of yours. And who better to deliver them than Geralt himself!

Don’t miss this chance to bring a smidgen of happiness into someone’s life. After all, that’s what the holidays are for, eh?

Drowner's Fricassee

Geralt could fool himself no longer – winter had arrived in full regalia. And it was not the kind of winter that Dandelion had described in one of his ballads as ‘innocent, soft and pallid, like a virgin’s cheek.’ It was real, it was serious – even mundane trips out to the privy were painful, the frost pinching exposed skin like Madame Dolores did at the Night House. Geralt was certainly no freezing weather enthusiast, but feeling cold all the time was hardly his chief concern. For winter, apart from its natural attributes, brought changes in human behavior, changes Geralt found disturbing. Ladies of the evening no longer roamed the streets, bandits in dark alleys weren’t hitting as hard, even dwarves, for whom drinking to obliteration was a pastime, were walking out of taverns on their own two feet. Geralt knew what was in store – the holidays were coming. The witchers would once again convene around the table in Kaer Morhen’s great hall to recount their adventures of the year past. The meetings usually turned rowdy, with alcohol flowing abundantly, but things would not be the same with Triss present this year. The sorceress had an altogether different idea of what made a holiday feast – needless to say, she did not see ale, wine and vodka served in succession as a three course meal. She had already advised the witchers to be inventive in their choice of menu for the repast under threat of waking up on the morrow turned into swine. Somewhere deep in his soul Geralt was glad there were still those who upheld the great and beautiful traditions – he just regretted his personal friend was among them. Resigned to his fate, he mounted Roach and headed off toward the village. ‘Who knows,’ he thought. ‘Maybe I’ll find some road kill on the way…’

And that’s the moment when you start to play the first role. We would like you to invent a recipe for delicious dish that could be prepared for a witchers’ feast. The more devious and wicked, the better :)

Send your proposition to , with “Christmas Contest” in subject. The three best ideas will be rewarded with sets of The Witcher games & gadgets.

We are waiting for you recipies till 4th of January.

Enjoy the cooking, chefs :)

Return of the White Wolf on GameCyte

11.12.2008, 17:21Comments: 3

We cross off another day in our calendar - what’s new? The weather outside is frightful, and we’ve got another interview to point to. Who are the victims today? None other than Tom Ohle, our man for USA, Canada and UK, and Jakub Stylinski, Senior Designer.

A few days ago, GameCyte interrogated them about Rise of the White Wolf. Did they play the tough guys and stay quiet, or did they reveal some secrets under the pressure of the journalist’s questions? You’ll have to read on to find out.

You can find the interview HERE.

Here it is, one of the first magazine covers of The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf! Where? It’s in the recent (still hot) issue of Click! magazine.

Rise of the White Wolf in Click!

We really like it, and you?

Aside from the cover, inside the magazine you can find a very interesting article in which the developers reveal a few secrets about the game, features and the future of the project.

Below you can find some quotes.

„Vizima, one of the biggest cities in history of RPG games looks even more charming in the new Witcher.”

„For the game purpose, especially Fight sequences,  CD Projekt RED is working on brand new and even more spectacular animations of Geralt and his enemies. They are being prepared in Frankfurt, by the same team that is responsible for animations in the PC Witcher. I’ve been able to have a look at effects of their work and I must say, that they had taken my breath away.”

The Witcher, European Game Centre and...Polish Prime Minister

08.12.2008, 13:45Comments: 14

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visited Jagiellonian University in Cracow on December 3rd. His agenda included a presentation of the concept for the soon to be created European Game Centre (a project aimed at educating specialists in the field of computer game design). The presentation included a brief introduction to motion-capture technology and a tour of rooms that will soon be converted into state-of-the-art motion-capture, sound and graphic design studios. He then met with two of the co-creators of The Witcher and saw a presentation of the game – the largest production to date in the history of Poland’s electronic entertainment industry. The prime minster was surprised by the scale and quality of the project and expressed admiration for its success worldwide. He seemed persuaded that computer games can be more than a childish ‘time killer’ and, like The Witcher, may ascend to being a fantastic blend of advanced computer technology and excellence in graphics, music, sound, acting and literature.

It’s nice to hear that Poland’s gaming industry is getting more notice. We’re also glad that the European Game Centre is moving forward and seems to have a bright future ahead of it. There’s just one thing worrying me: If he had to, could the prime minister defeat the Beast? :)
